DEMODRIVERS attends the 90th Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology

DEMODRIVERS team members Andrés Mejía and Kate Dudgeon attended the 90th Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology, in Denver, Co, USA from 23rd to 27th April 2025. Andrés, Kate and PI Umberto Lombardo organised a poster session: “From the Agricultural to the AI Revolution: Analytical Advances in Paleoethnobotany”, in which we presented our ongoing research where we are developing an automated workflow for the automated identification and classification of phytoliths using AI.

Andrés gave a talk titled “Teotihuacan Was Not a City” and was also a discussant in the session “Repositioning Altar de Sacrificios on the Ancient Maya Landscape”, in which he drew comparisons between the Maya the Llanos de Moxos regions.

Kate gave a talk on behalf on Umberto Lombardo based on the results from a paper published in Nature earlier this year: Maize monoculture supported pre-Columbian urbanism in southwestern AmazoniaAbre en nueva ventana.
